Windsor, Ontario , Nov 9, 2011 - Building on the success of several recent special-edition Jeep vehicles, the Jeep® brand is introducing its latest models: the new 2012 Jeep Wrangler Arctic and Jeep Liberty Arctic.
The rugged, extreme winter conditions of the arctic are the inspiration for these latest Jeep models. With winter temperatures that can reach -45°C, and wind speeds that can exceed 160 kilometres per hour, the arctic is well known as one of the most intense climates on Earth.
“The new Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Liberty Arctic Editions deliver legendary Jeep 4x4 capability ready to tackle the toughest Canadian winter,” said Ed Broadbear, Vice President Marketing, Chrysler Canada. “In addition, Jeep Wrangler is powered by our 3.6L Pentastar engine, recently named one of Ward’s 10 best new engines for 2011.”
Available in Liberty, Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited, the 2012 Arctic models arrive in Canadian showrooms this month.
2012 Jeep Wrangler Arctic
Based on the Jeep Wrangler Sahara model, the Arctic’s winter theme is immediately recognizable. Available colours are Winter Chill, Bright Silver, and Bright White. Exterior features include a modular body-colour Freedom Top® hardtop and body-colour fender flares, “Arctic” badges on the front fenders, a “Yeti Footprint” decal over part of the driver’s side fender and hood, black hood decal, and Mopar® black fuel filler door and taillamp guards.
Jeep Wrangler Arctic also offers an aggressive Wrangler Rubicon tire and wheel package, with unique semi-gloss black 17-inch wheels adorned with 32-inch tires.
Inside, Jeep Wrangler Arctic’s seats are black cloth and vinyl fabric with Polar White accents and Arctic Orange piping and accent stitching. Front seats are heated and feature an “Arctic” logo in the seat back. Arctic Orange accent stitching can also be found on the steering wheel, arm rest, and console lid. Door trim and nets are accented in Arctic Orange, and all grab handles and dashboard vent rings are finished in Polar White trim.
Mopar tread pattern slush mats with white “Jeep” lettering complete the Wrangler Arctic package.
2012 Jeep Liberty Arctic
Available on Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4 models, the Arctic shares many of the same features as the Wrangler Arctic. Available exterior colours are Winter Chill, Bright Silver, Bright White and Mineral Grey. “Arctic” badges on the front fenders are shared, though the “Arctic” decal on the hood is unique to Jeep Liberty. Semi-gloss black 16-inch aluminum wheels with centre caps painted semi-gloss black are wrapped in P235/70R16 OWL all terrain tires. Rounding out the exterior highlights are deep tint glass and tow hooks, blacked-out headlamps and standard fog lamps.
The interior features a similar black and Arctic Orange colour scheme found in Jeep Wrangler. Seats are covered in black vinyl with a Gortex embossment, and the inserts are Tectonic fabric with Polar White accents. Arctic Orange accent stitching can be found on the seat backs, cushions, and headrests. Power front seats are heated and feature an “Arctic” logo in the seat back. Finishing touches include grey-faced gauges, express up/down one-touch windows, Media Centre 430 touch-screen with a nine-speaker Infiniti sound system, and Mopar slush mats with white “Jeep” lettering.
2012 Jeep Wrangler
Jeep® Wrangler – the most capable and recognized vehicle in the world – becomes even more capable both on- and off-road for 2012, courtesy of an all-new, more fuel efficient and more powerful 3.6 litre Pentastar™ VVT V6 engine, and a new five-speed automatic transmission – both of which it shares with the award-winning Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Chrysler Group’s 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine – winner of the prestigious Ward’s 10 Best Engines award – delivers a Best-in-Class 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft. of torque, while delivering up to 9.3L/100 km (30 MPG) highway in the 2012 Jeep Wrangler. The improvement, when compared to the previous 3.8-litre V6 engine, is 40 per cent more in horsepower, 10 per cent more in torque, and up to 15 per cent better fuel economy.
Additionally, for refined shifting and greater performance, the Jeep Wrangler migrates from a four-speed to a new five-speed automatic transmission. The 2012 Jeep Wrangler also features the company’s first application of a manual transmission to the Pentastar VVT V6.
Jeep continues to refine the successful Wrangler formula by combining legendary, benchmark capability with an interior that delivers rich styling with significantly upgraded touch surfaces, occupant comfort and versatility, as well as a premium appearance courtesy of the available modular body-colour hardtop for the popular Sahara and Rubicon models.
2012 Jeep Wrangler interior highlights include a recently redesigned instrument panel and storage areas with improved ergonomics and upgraded materials. A lockable console and upgraded door armrest areas boast comfortable touch points, while a redesigned centre stack is easier to reach and operate. Heated, power mirrors are available, and drivers and passengers enjoy enhanced visibility courtesy of large rear windows.
2012 Jeep Liberty
Jeep Liberty remains true to its legendary 4x4 heritage by offering two Jeep Trail Rated® four-wheel-drive systems – Command-Trac II® and Selec-Trac II®. Command-Trac II® is a part-time four-wheel-drive system, which is the standard 4WD configuration. Command-Trac II operates in 2WD, 4WD Lock, 4WD Low and Neutral.
The optional Selec-Trac II® is a full-time, active on-demand four-wheel-drive system. Select-Trac II operates in 2WD, 4WD Auto, 4WD Low and Neutral. The Liberty features independent front suspension with rack-and-pinion steering and a five-link rear suspension.
A 3.7-litre V6 engine is standard on all Jeep Liberty models. The 3.7-litre engine produces 210 horsepower @ 5,200 rpm and 235 lb-ft. of torque @ 4,000 rpm.
Jeep Liberty is designed to appeal to customers who are looking for Jeep 4x4 capability as well as comfort and convenience. It is targeted to young couples and new families, as well as professional, young singles between 30 and 40 years of age, balanced male to female. Jeep Liberty owners balance day-to-day responsibilities with their passion for adventure as well as the outdoors. They are athletic, and pursue activities that combine their various interests with their active lifestyle.
